Halftime! Prayer and Study 2007
7-part prayer and study series from Pentecost to 07/07/07 for Blow the halftime whistle!
Introduction
Over seven weeks in June and July 07, join with Christians around the world in prayer, reflection and action to care for and speak out with the poor and marginalised.
Micah Challenge has collated stories and prayers from around the world to teach and inspire you and your group. Each week’s material should take 10 minutes during a service, school assembly, Bible study or home group. Bible study materials have also been provided and may be used in conjunction with the stories and prayers for more in-depth study. Please adapt the material to suit your needs.
The contributions for these materials have come from leading theologians and social justice practitioners from four different continents around the world (three from the global South). This gives us a unique collection of studies which centre around God's heart for the poor and His desire for His church to be their advocates.
This is an opportunity for God’s people to be linked globally in prayer throughout the halftime period from Pentecost to 07/07/07. Whatever you do, we urge you to pray and keep on praying, that God’s Kingdom would be expanded and that the church would stand for righteousness and justice in every aspect of life.
“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.” Galatians 6:9-10
Halftime!
2007 offers an amazing moment that we can grasp. A moment to speak out with those living in poverty and to speak up for justice. A moment to take stock and challenge our leaders to get on track to keep their promise to halve poverty by 2015.
That's why we are inviting you to 'blow the halftime whistle!' for the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
“We want to assess where we are at 'halftime' but remind the world that there’s still seven years to go.”
Marco Van Der Graaf, Micah Challenge Netherlands
