Finnish Evangelical Lutheran Mission - Pakistan is a member of the Micah Network
2015 represents a year of transition for the Micah family.
Micah Network and Micah Challenge merged in December 2014 forming a new network/movement called Micah.
Over the coming months the development of Micah's structure, strategic direction and priorities will be shared. A new web site is being developed. This represents an exciting period of change, as we renew our commitment to tackling injustice, poverty and violence around the world.
We maintain our identity as both a movement and a network, and we will build upon the assets, knowledge, skills and expertise that have been compiled throughout the history of both Micah Network and Micah Challenge since 2001.
Our mandate remains the same:
"What does the Lord require of us but to act justly, love mercy and walk humbly with God."
The transition was kicked off at the Micah Summit in New York in December 2014, where a new Micah Call to Action was issued and agreed to.
Although the official merge of Micah Network and Micah Challenge has taken place, the process of transition is ongoing. Its completion will be celebrated in September 2015 at the Global Consultation in Peru.
At this time in the process, we are working towards the following goals:
- seek God's guidance for the future direction of the new Micah
- identify priorities for our advocacy aims. This includes ending the MDGs (Millenium Development Goals) well and reflecting how best to tackle the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) and our post-2015 agenda
- finalise details of the 6th Triennial Global Consultation - registration to open in January 2015
Strategic discussions within the governance board, with national coordinators and with our members are continuing as we seek to give shape and detail to our new identity, mission and strategy of the new Micah.
Details of our upcoming Global Consultation are being finalized, and registration is open. This gathering in September 2015 will be an exciting opportunity as we officially launch the future vision of Micah and celebrate this triennial occasion for our members to meet and share. All of the information about this event can be found here in English, Français, Español, Português.
Preparations for the Global Consultation are going ahead, with our International Director visiting Lima, Peru to confirm plans earlier this month.
We have had a positive response to the Call for Submissions based on the Consultation theme of Integral Mission and Shalom: justice, peace and joy. Please note that the deadline for papers is April 30th.
Celebration and Sorrow featured at our recent national Conversation in Kenya and Tanzania, and was a valuable opportunity to reflect on the progress of those nations against the MDGs, and to look ahead to the potential of the proposed SDGs as future benchmarks for progress.
In other news, the International Director recruitment process is under way with applications closing on April 17th. We also have a team working with the Board to discuss and research the future governance structure of Micah. This process will inform what Micah looks like as we formally launch in September.
It is six months since Micah Network and Micah Challenge International merged to form Micah Global.
In that time, we have made significant decisions and progress towards finalising our strategic direction for Micah in 2015 and beyond.
International Director appointed in May.
New Governance Structure formed in June.
We are now developing our national expression links and will all be meeting in Peru to launch our new advocacy initiative.
It was with great joy and Celebration that we welcomed so many of the Micah Global family to our Global Consultation in Lima, Peru in September. An opportunity to officially launch as Micah Global, we shared our common vision to see communities living life in all its fullness, free from poverty, injustice and violence.
During this meeting, we met in person with many of our national coordinators and were able to make good progress in discussing the implications of the transition for the national expressions of Micah around the world. These discussions are ongoing.
In other news, a call for nominations for new members of the Micah Global Board was sent to all members, and a selection committee is currently reviewing these nominations with the aim to welcome in new Board members by the end of the year.
We continue to work towards a new Micah Global website and welcome offers of assistance from skilled volunteers in this area.
